With a mystical and ethereal theme, Great Wild Elk is a popular game designed by Nextgen Gaming. As you wander through the forest, you may be lucky enough to spot the beautiful elk itself and reap the rewards that goes alongside it. So of course we at Boku Slots had to look into it.

Game Features
Great Wild Elk is a 5-reel, 10 fixed pay line slot offering a 95.1% RTP. It is set against a forest back drop, featuring woodland animals, runic stones and mythical looking characters. This combined with the eerie music gives it an almost surreal feeling whilst in play.
Bet Amounts – Betting on Great Wild Elk begins at 1p per line making your spin just 10p, which is great for those wanting to be careful with how much they spend. You can increase your bet to £2 per line making each spin £20, so although higher still very affordable on most pockets. You can amend your bet amount by entering the settings and clicking on the cog, or just before you spin you can change your bet from the coin icon attached to the spin button.
Wild Symbol – The elk is the wild symbol and substitutes for all other symbols, except the mystical tree scatter. The elk wild will only appear on reel 3, however the elk brings many more features with it which we will explain below.
Scatter Symbols – Your scatter on Great Wild Elk is the mythical tree, it appears on reels 1, 2, 4 and 5. In this game the scatter does not trigger the bonus spins round, which is a slight twist compared to other games. However, land 4 of these on an active pay line and you will win the scatter jackpot of 500 coins.
Elks Light Feature – At the beginning of a spin you may notice the reels fading out of sight and as the reels spin any of the rune stones are replaced. They will be replaced with one of the higher paying symbols which include the fairies, eagle, squirrel or snake. This can be very profitable depending on how many rune stones are replaced.
Bonus Spins Feature – As previously stated the elk wild will only appear on reel 3. That being said as a result of the elk forming a winning combination, you will trigger this feature. You will be allocated a number of spins ranging from 4 to 10 in total. The elk wild will expand across the whole of reel 3 and remain there for the duration of your bonus spins. All the wins made during the feature using the elk wild, become known as your enduring win total. In this feature each tree scatter that lands on the reels will award a win, which is the same as your enduring win total at that time. If the elk wild helps to create more than one win during this feature, you will receive all those wins into your enduring wins total. You cannot retrigger the bonus spin feature, but the elks light feature is in play here instead.
Call of the Elk feature – Once your bonus spins are over you are allocated a respin and only the tree scatter awards winnings. If you land one or more trees on the respin, you will be awarded another respin and this will continue until you land no further tree scatters.
Overview
Great Wild Elk on a whole appealed to us with its mystic and fantasy like design and once in play we did enjoy the way it worked. However, whilst the pay out on the features were great when we got there, it did take a while and that put us off slightly. With it only having 10 pay lines we would have expected a both ways pay table, but that is not the case here. All wins pay from left to right which explains the struggle to hit wins frequently. Overall, it is relatively low cost to play the game itself, making it more accessible to the masses. The game does have a good following and is quite intriguing to play, especially with the randomly triggering Elks Light feature. For us though we would have liked to have seen more wins, but then wouldn’t we all?
