Day of the dead is a big draw for game designers as it is so colourful and enticing. There are lots of slots based on this theme, but Beautiful Bones has to be one of our favourites. Developed by Microgaming it has two great features and graphics to die for!
Beautiful Bones is a 5-reel slot giving 243 ways to win and a nice RTP of 96.55% for players. The slot itself is very intricately designed before we even hit on the symbols. The reels are spinning against a confetti background and have a nice soundtrack playing along. But the symbols are what really draw the eye. Male and female characters with candy skull designs on their faces and a very ornate script look, given to the card of the lower value symbols.
Bet Amounts – Betting begins at 30p per spin and can be increased to £30 at the maximum per spin. Not a hugely over the top cost for stakes considering the RTP is relatively high for a game of this nature.
Wild Symbol – A love heart and roses is your wild which will substitute for all other symbols except the scatter.
Scatter Symbols – An ornate candy skull surrounded by roses is your scatter. This symbol is pivotal in triggering the bonus spins, but works out a little different than in other games.
Wild Spin Again Feature – If you manage to line up three matching symbols in a line you will trigger this feature. Symbols can line up vertically or horizontally and once they do the centre symbol will turn wild and the reels will respin. Land three more matching symbols in the respin and it will trigger the feature again, so this can be an extremely helpful way of creating more wins.
Candy Skull Spins Feature – As you may have realised you need more than three candy skull scatter symbols to trigger the bonus spins round. At the left of the reels you will see a meter, that fills up each time a scatter symbol lands on the reels. In order to trigger the spins, you will need to fill the meter up and on reaching each level you will have the choice of activating your bonus or to continue collecting. If you choose to continue then you will need to carry on playing until the next level is full and you can claim the spins. There are 3 different levels of spins to be achieved:
- Level 1 – 10 bonus spins plus a x3 multiplier, this requires 10 skull symbols to claim,
- Level 2 – 15 bonus spins plus a x4 multiplier, this requires 20 skull symbols to claim,
- Level 3 – 18 bonus spins plus a x5 multiplier, this requires 30 skull symbols to claim.
When you reach level 1 or 2 you can choose to claim the spins or continue collecting skulls to gain more spins. But on reaching level three you have no choice; the spins will begin automatically as there is no higher level to achieve. The wild spin again feature is also active in the bonus spins, but scatter symbols cannot be collected here.
With Beautiful Bones there is a sense of excitement constantly gnawing at you, as you watch that skull meter fill at the side knowing you can soon claim it. As well as that, the addition of the wild spin again feature really makes you forget there is not much else going on. Mainly because the wild spin again triggers that often it feels like something is always happening. Wins are fast in the base game and once the bonus does trigger they are much bigger. If you don’t fall in love with Beautiful Bones for the design, you will certainly fall for the game play.
