Game Features
Highlander is a 5-reel, 243 ways to win slot that has a very healthy RTP of 97% for anyone wanting to take on the challenge. Reels spin to the sound of the Highlander theme tune and against an ominous looking moors background, lending a bit of atmosphere to the game itself. Symbols represented by characters from the movie including Connor, Brenda, Heather, and Kurgan all make your higher value symbols. Combine these with very regal looking card values for the lower and you are all set for a very interesting game.
Bet Amounts – Betting begins at 40p per spin and can be increased up to £30 per spin, which isn’t too high on the scale when you consider the amount of ways to win. To amend your bet just click on the plus or minus signs to the left of the spin button and your bet will change accordingly.
Wild Symbol – Highlanders sword is the wild symbol and it will substitute for all other symbols except the scatter. It is also the second highest paying symbol within the game, offering x10 up to x750 coins for landing 5 in a winning combination. The amount you get depends on the stake that you bet to begin with.
Scatter Symbol – The MacLeod clan symbol is your scatter and it will trigger the bonus feature if you land three or more anywhere in view. It is your highest paying symbol offering between x40 and x3000 coins for landing 5 or more in a winning combination.
X2 Scatter Feature – Land just 2 scatters anywhere on the reels and they will instantly turn wild and contribute to any potential winning combinations. This will only happen if there are only x2 scatters on the reels at the end of the spin.
Bonus Spins Feature – Having landed 3 or more scatters in view you will activate the bonus spins. You will be awarded 10 spins to play through which cannot be retriggered which isn’t great, but you do have something called Quickening Wilds active which makes up for it.
Quickening Wild Feature – This will only appear within the bonus spins round, but it is very helpful in creating bigger wins. A lightning bolt will strike the reels at random, on the first strike it will turn a symbol wild, on the second strike it will turn x2 symbols wild and so on until the lightening stops. If you are very lucky it will carry on until you have plenty of wilds filling up the reels.
Overview
Whilst Highlander does deliver in most aspects we couldn’t help but be a little disappointed, because we expected so much more! Don’t get us wrong overall the game delivers everything you would need, three very interesting features, a great atmosphere and let’s not forget that 97% RTP. But with it being based on the theme of such a cult classic we would have loved an interactive feature. All that aside whether you know the movie or not, the game presents some great base and feature wins and they come fast enough that all else is forgiven.
