What is Slingo?

18+ Please Gamble Responsibly GambleAware

Our online gambling time is precious, so choosing the right game is important. On most casino sites you will find plenty of options, with some being more popular than others. Over recent years there has been a decline in popularity of the once loved bingo, with slots becoming the new king of the casino. It’s not really surprising because the last decade has seen a dramatic evolution of online slots. They’re no longer just spinning reels, you now have story lines, high quality animation and featured bonuses.

Thus, a similar advancement was needed for bingo, so that online bettors could fall in love with it all over again. This led to the introduction of Slingo, which is basically a combination of both bingo and slots. It meant that players who loved both games didn’t have to choose one or the other, whilst breathing fresh life into the everyday game of bingo.

History of Slingo

Now you have an idea what it is, let’s delve a little into where it came from. Sal Falciglia Sr. in 1994 created the game and founded the company Slingo. The rights were sold to RealNetworks in 2013 and then again in July 2015 to Gaming Realms. Since then, the popularity of the game has soared with a number of versions being released, known as Slingo Originals.

You could access Slingo in the beginning as a free game but as it attracted more and more players, it became a real money game.

Slingo – The Basics

What is SlingoWe’ll start off by saying that compared to other games, Slingo is quite simple to play. There are a number of varieties of Slingo with some being single player and others multi-player.

The basic Slingo game combines 75-ball bingo and a 5-reel slot on a 5 x 5 grid. This grid is similar to a bingo card with the reels found just below it, but there is only one space on each reel visible. To begin you will be given a set number of spins which can range between 10 and 20. A certain amount of those spins will be free and then the rest have to be paid for up to the maximum amount. Instead of the bingo caller providing the numbers, you click spin and they will appear in the reel under the card. After the reel stops spinning you will either have 5 numbers or a feature symbol.

The goal is to gain points by matching up the numbers or symbols on the reels, to those on the bingo card. Most games highlight the numbers to mark off, making it easier on the player. But make sure you keep an eye out, because there is a time limit, and you may miss out. If you use up all of your spins, then you have the option to purchase more.

To win a multiplay game (where you will play against others) on Slingo you have to accumulate the highest number of points. Because it is a points-based game you will find that there are different amounts given for different elements. When you mark the numbers off the card you will see that lines tend to be worth a lot of points. But if you cleared the card quickly then there will be a jump in your points. We mentioned symbols earlier and these too have set points allocated for when they land. There are even special features such as multipliers, free spins, and power ups, to ramp up that score board.

The premise is the same on single player games in terms of points, but because you’re playing solo you are given a pre-set score to beat.

Slingo Symbols

Whilst each game of Slingo is slightly different, they all have bonus symbols which if landed will give you more points. The main special symbols or unlock features are:

  • Coins – which can provide both extra points and free spins.
  • Free Spin – Probably seems a little obvious, but you will get a spin without having to use your own credit.
  • Devils – Some symbols are better than others and as you can imagine this one isn’t that great for the player. If you land a Devil, then your score is cut in half, and you can lose numbers on your bingo card.
  • Cherubs – With the bad comes the good, because if the Cherub appears they will hit the Devil with an arrow and cancel out his action.
  • Jokers – Considered the wild cards of Slingo, you can use the Joker to daub any number you choose in the column above.
  • Super Jokers – Similar to the Joker, expect they can be used to mark off a number anywhere and as such they’re not confined to the same column.

As with all slot games Slingo has a pay table, so our advice would be to use it to establish the different features and symbols in the game. Each one can be different so familiarising yourself with your version can save time and hopefully improve your game play.

What are the Differences Between Slingo and Bingo or Slots?

  • The obvious difference between Slingo and bingo is the use of symbols on the card. Normally you would only see numbers on a bingo card, but they have been added to Slingo to provide us with more excitement.
  • Because of the flexibility of Slingo, you can have both single player and multiplayer. Traditionally bingo tends to be multiplayer, whereas slots are single player. Having both means you can choose depending on how you feel. Would you prefer some solo gaming time, or maybe you fancy heading to the chat rooms and meeting other Slingo fans.
  • In comparison to a normal slot game, you will see there is less reel space on Slingo. More specifically you will only see one space on each reel, whereas on a normal game this can be three or more.
  • Although slots can have various line ways, you don’t tend to see this as often in bingo. So Slingo has followed the slot route to create more fun. Depending on the game you play, you can gain points for completing lines vertically, horizontally, or diagonally; and in some there are even patterns.

Tips for Playing Slingo

Although bingo and by extension Slingo is a game of chance, there are a few things you can do to push the odds in your favour. Remember that to win you have to accumulate the most points on the multiplayer options or reach the pre-set points for the single player version.

  • If you are given any multipliers, then try and keep them until the end. Some games offer out 3x or 5x multipliers and they can help you complete lines quicker at the end, which will boost your points significantly.
  • We’ve mentioned this already, but it can have an impact on your gaming, so make sure you check out the pay table to see how the game works. It may also be worth checking out You Tube for demos of the game so you can see what’s available. Remember that each variety of Slingo can be different, so just because you have played one doesn’t mean the others will be exactly the same.
  • If your chosen game has Powerups, then make use of them because extra spins and extra time can increase your points.
