The Chinese are well known for their lucky symbols, colours and numbers so Bally Technologies have teamed up with SG Digital to create 88 Fortunes. This game is packed with lucky symbolism so hopefully you’ll win big, but first you need to start spinning. Combining a big bet option as well as a great bonus spins round and a progressive jackpot, there’s lots of fun to be had in 88 Fortunes.
88 Fortunes is a 5-reel, 243 ways to win slot offering players a 95.93% RTP. The game itself looks like it’s just been pulled from the casino floor. Bright colours, bold design, with the reels spinning against a deep red background full of Chinese luck symbols. Higher value symbols are the bird, ship, turtle, gold coins and a Chinese dollar too. Lower value symbols are depicted by the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 usually found in playing cards. All of the lower symbols are coloured brightly, and little stars are carved into them to add a bit of flair. There is a chinese sounding track playing along as the reels spin, which although slightly tinny in parts really adds to the overall atmosphere of the game.
Bet Amounts – Betting on 88 Fortunes begins at 8p per spin in this game and can be increased up to £8.00 per spin. Use the plus and minus symbols on each side of the bet amount, until you are satisfied with the bet that is showing. There is a way for the bet amount to increase further with the big bet option and we explain this for you below.
Big Bet Option – If you wish to increase your bet amount, in return you will get one or more of the higher value symbols turned gold. They will then be worth more on the pay table when forming part of a win. You begin the game at level 1 and can select from any of the five levels on each spin, as shown here. As you select a level, the symbols that will now turn gold are shown in the top left corner of the reels.
- Level one – 1 gold symbol and costs x8 your bet amount,
- Level Two – 2 gold symbols and costs x18 your bet amount,
- Level Three – 3 gold symbols and costs x38 your bet amount,
- Level Four – 4 gold symbols and costs x68 your bet amount,
- Level Five – 5 gold symbols and costs x88 your bet amount.
Wild Symbol – Your wild symbol in 88 Fortunes is something called the Fu Bat symbol, which is four red bats surrounding the chinese symbol for good fortune. Fu means good fortune in chinese and is also a known sound for the word Bat, so bats are seen to be good luck too. The Fu Bat symbol will substitute for all other symbols including the scatter, bringing the player lots of extra luck when it lands. The Fu Bat wild will only land on reels 2, 3 and 4 though, so watch out for it.
Scatter Symbol – A gong on a red stand is your scatter symbol in 88 Fortunes and landing three or more anywhere on the reels will trigger the bonus spins. It is also the highest paying symbol in the game, offering players from x5, x10 and x50 your bet amount when landing three or more.
Fu Bat Jackpot Feature – That Fu Bat wild plays more than one role in 88 Fortunes! It also triggers the jackpot game at random too. So, any time a Fu Bat wild symbol lands, you could be transferred to the jackpot game immediately to win one of the four progressive jackpot prizes.
For the chance of winning one of either the mini, minor, major or grand jackpots, all you have to do is find three matching symbols. So, when you enter the game you will see a screen with 12 gold coins. Pick coins until you reveal three matching symbols and the jackpot they are representing will be yours! There is a catch here though, in order to be eligible for any of the jackpots you have to play at the big bet level two or higher. The higher the bet level you play when the jackpot is triggered, the more jackpots you are able to play for.
- Mini Jackpot – available at bet level 2, 3, 4 and 5,
- Minor Jackpot – available at bet level 3, 4 and 5,
- Major Jackpot – available at bet level 4 and 5,
- Grand Jackpot – available at bet level 5 only,
Bonus Spins Feature – Land yourself three or more of the gong scatter symbol to enter the bonus spins feature. You will be awarded with 10 bonus spins and all lower value symbols will be removed for the entire round! On top of this the Fu Bat Jackpot can be triggered from within the round and you can also retrigger the bonus spins as well, by landing the required number of scatters once more. There is no limit to the number of times the bonus spins can be retriggered, and the round will only be completed once all spins have been played through.
Considering the overall look of the game there is actually a lot on offer at 88 Fortunes. The bonus spins trigger easily enough which is great. Especially as there are plenty of wins to be made thanks to the removal of the lower paying symbols. Main game wins happen regularly too, but we found usually on the lower end of the pay scale unless you start scaling the big bet levels. But that can be a bit of a drain on the balance if you play at the big bet level frequently. You do get a bit extra for your stake with the extra symbols turning gold and being worth more when they form a win. But you have to remember to weigh up the pros and cons of the big bet before utilising it. Overall 88 Fortunes is fun and easy to play, which is the perfect slot game combination.
