Big Kahuna

Boku Slots has been playing a lot of games of late and one that really stood out to us is the aptly named Big Kahuna from Microgaming Software. The term Big Kahuna these days relates to someone who is at the top of their field. But its origin actually refers to a high priest, priestess or shaman. This slot game definitely reflects this version of the name, with its medicine man symbols and Hawaiian themes. But for a game that has been around since 2004, does it really stand up against the newer slots of today; we think it does but have a read and decide for yourself.

Game Features

Big Kahuna is a 5-reel, 9 pay line slot game and although it’s very 2 dimensional, the theme is still bright and colourful enough to grab your attention. It has an amazing RTP of 96.2%, which is higher than some of the featured favourite slots we’ve seen.

Bet Amounts – Betting begins at just £4.50 per spin and climbs to £22.50 per spin, if you’re playing on all pay lines and max coin levels. You can however reduce the amount of lines you play, as well as adjust the coin size. Basically, meaning that you have a variety of payment options suited to all budgets. Make sure you play around with the pay lines and coin amounts until you are happy with what you want to bet, before hitting spin.

Wild Symbol – The wild symbol is the Big Kahuna words so should be easily recognisable. If you get the wild symbol in combination with a fruit symbol, the wild will substitute any fruits and hopefully make a winning combination. But you should be aware it will not substitute for any other symbols.

Scatter Symbol – Your scatter symbol is the monkeys face. This cheeky little chappy will trigger your scatter wins when two or more of the monkeys face appears on the reels.

You’ll quickly notice that they’ve taken the fruit machine theme and given it a little Hawaiian touch. When it comes to pay outs, the wild symbol is going to be your highest paying symbol especially if you land 5 across an active pay line and the lowest paying symbol are raspberries.

Pick a Mask Bonus Game – When you land three or more tiki mask symbols on an active pay line, you will trigger this bonus game. A selection of masks will appear on the screen and you simply begin to click on the masks, collecting bonuses as you go. Once you land on the word ‘Collect’, the game is over and your money is added to your total. If you land on collect straightaway before any other masks have been collected, you will be awarded a consolation prize. So, either way you win once you enter this bonus game.

Volcano Bonus Game – To trigger the volcano bonus game you need to land three or more volcano symbols on the reels. Once the game is activated you will see five different fruits on the screen. You pick one to be thrown into the volcano and whatever is behind that fruit is your prize. The prizes are random bonuses and you can only pick one.

Overview

Whilst the soundtrack leaves a little to be desired, we loved the bright colourful scheme on Big Kahuna slot. From the well-drawn symbols, to the easy to play mini games activated by the bonus symbols. Then add in that great RTP, wild symbol and scatter, and you are onto a winner. Although the game may be deemed basic by those that are used to more intricate and in-depth gaming, we have a special place in our hearts for Big Kahuna. It plays really well on all devices meaning you will be able to game on the go and have a little bit of Hawaii wherever you may be.
