It’s not necessarily something you think of when you imagine a slot, but Break Away is themed on the fast paced game of ice hockey. Boku Slots knows very little about ice hockey, but we do know a good online slot game. So we’re checking out this Microgaming slot for you, to see if it’s worth parting with your well-earned pennies.
Play Break Away on any of these top casino sites;
Break Away is a 5-reel, 243 ways to win slot offering a goal scoring RTP of 96.42% for its players. The game is completely ice hockey focused, with all the symbols taken from the game itself. It is also home to some great features to keep you entertained, even if the theme isn’t quite for you.
Bet Amounts – Betting on Break Away begins at £5 per spin and can be increased up to £50 per spin, so it is a very affordable game all round. Always make sure you have selected the bet amount you require before hitting spin, because once you do the cash is taken from your balance.
Wild Symbol – Your wild symbol is the Break Away logo and it will substitute for all other symbols, except the scatter. The wild is also stacked on reels 3, 4 and 5, to give better chances of completing winning combinations.
Scatter Symbols – A flaming hockey puck is your scatter symbol and landing 3 or more will trigger the bonus spins feature for you. The scatter is also the highest paying symbol in the game, paying up to 12,500 coins as a win for 5 on a winning line.
Rolling Reels Feature – During the game you will see that when you make a winning combination it is removed and new symbols drop into place. This is an interesting feature that has been adapted by many game providers. The rolling reels also feature in the bonus spins game as well, which is a huge help in creating wins.
Smashing Wild Feature – This is a randomly triggered feature and you will notice that the Break Away wild symbol freezes over, when it hits the reel. Next a hockey player will skate across the screen crashing into either reel 2, 3 or 4 and turn it completely wild.
Stacked Wilds Feature – The stacked wilds in Break Away work slightly different than you will be used to elsewhere. They appear on reels 3, 4 and 5, and each stack contains several wilds ranging from 3 to 25. This will greatly enhance your chances of winning and boost those prize funds too.
- Reel 3 = 18 stacked wilds,
- Reel 4 = 25 stacked wilds,
- Reel 5 = 3 stacked wilds.
Bonus Spins Feature – Once you have landed three or more scatters you trigger the bonus spins, with rolling wilds in play here too. The amount of spins you will be allocated depends on the number of scatters you land. The spins you can receive are shown below:
- 3 scatter symbols will award 15 spins,
- 4 scatter symbols will award 20 spins,
- 5 scatter symbols will award 25 spins.
This is where it gets interesting because the rolling reels feature is activated here, as it is in the base game. So, every winning combination will shatter and be removed from the reels, with new symbols dropping into place and potentially creating new combinations. On top of that every time you make consecutive wins via the rolling reels feature, you will receive a x1 multiplier increase up to x6. Once you stop creating wins with the rolling reels, the multiplier resets ready to start again.
Whist we may not be avid supporters of ice hockey, we really enjoyed Break Away. As usual Microgaming have pieced together a brilliant adaptation of the sport and combined it with our love of slots. The many features are a great draw to most players and those wins trigger fast and often which is just what you want. The soundtrack was a bit off putting for us, but for those who don’t mind it then its going to make the game feel a little more like hockey and less like a slot.
