It’s time to look back at the 80’s tv cop shows that flooded our screens in all their white suited, curly haired and sunglasses glory. Hotline is a slot based very loosely on these shows, with a femme fatale and two cops giving chase. Check out the intro video when you first start the game, the music is right off an 80’s soundtrack that’s for sure. NetEnt lend their design skills to this slot bringing all the neon, fast cars and diamonds they can find, to really immerse you in the games theme of a jewel heist gone wrong.

Game Features
Hotline is a 5-reel, 30 fixed pay line game that offers players a variable RTP of 96.13% to 97.04%, thanks to its innovative Hotline design. The game is set in what looks like a beachfront scene almost reminiscent of Los Angeles, with a boutique hotel to the right and a setting sun in the background. Symbols on the reels include the three main characters introduced in the video intro and of course the stolen diamonds.
Higher values are the three characters, Kitty the diamond thief, Riviera and Quinn the cops tasked with chasing her down. Lower values are depicted by a tiara on a red cushion, a green jewelled necklace and a blue jewelled bangle. All the time the reels are spinning there is a very retro music track playing along that would be right at home in an 80’s show like Knightrider, which gives a great feel to the game.
Bet Amounts – Betting begins at 15p per spin and can be increased to the maximum of £15 per spin in Hotline. But there is a chance to amend the bets even higher with the addition of the Hotline feature which will be explained below. For your base game bets, you can change the coin level to the left of the spin button, or the coin value to the right until you hit your desired stake.
Wild Symbol – As you would expect from an LA themed cop game, the wild symbol is a red Ferrari! It will substitute for all other symbols except the scatter and has a special role to play during the Hotline feature too, read on below to find out more.
Scatter Symbol – A beautiful sunset scene is your scatter symbol in Hotline, and it will only land on reels 1, 3 and 5. But land three of these and you will trigger the bonus spins round.
Hotline Bonus Bet Feature – Not just the name of the game, Hotline offers a bonus bet feature for players. Your base bet includes one hotline of your choice and you will see a yellow frame around one set of the rows on the screen, either the top, the middle or the bottom. You can change your Hotline selection at the beginning of every spin.
During the game if a wild symbol lands inside the chosen hotline section it will then expand across the whole reel it has landed on. You will also receive a single respin of all the reels with the expanded wild held in place.
There is the choice to expand the hotline section from x1, x2 or x3 meaning one, two or all three rows will be highlighted. This gives you more chances to land those expanding wilds and gain the respins that comes with it. However, there is a cost to have the extra Hotline sections activated as shown below:
- X1 Hotline is included on any spin and any bet amount,
- X2 Hotline sections will incur an extra charge of x2 your stake amount to activate,
- X3 Hotline sections will incur an extra charge of x3 your stake amount to activate,
This means if your bet is set at £1 per spin and you wish to activate x2 sections it will cost you £2 to activate it. If you wished to have x3 sections active at a £1 bet amount, then it would be increased to £3 to activate it.
Bonus Spin Feature – Landing three or more of the sunset scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 will trigger the bonus spins for you. Here you will now be given 7 spins to play through with a little something extra too. Any wilds that land in the active Hotline zones during the spins will remain in place until the end of the round. Although you can’t retrigger the bonus spins round, those sticky expanded wilds are going to help things along a little instead.
Overview
Whilst many of us will remember the 80’s fondly there are some aspects we wish to forget like the perms on men, the dodgy white suits etc. Thankfully there is always games like Hotline to remind us and the new generations just how tragic our dress sense was back then. On the other side of the coin though Hotline is a fast-paced energetic slot, that offers great win potential in both the base game and the bonus spins. The addition of the bonus bet feature is a welcome change, as it gives the player a say in whether all three Hotline zones are in play or to use just one and move it about. Whether you are a fan of 80’s themed slots or not we think you are going to love Hotline based on the features alone, we did and we will certainly be back for more.
