We all love the sun and some more than others, take the ancient Aztecs for example who literally worshipped it! This particular slot has very little to do with the actual sun or even Aztecs for that matter, except for a few slight design nods. But join us as we enter the Sun Quest slot from Microgaming and see what excitement it has in store for us.
Sun Quest is a 5-reel, 9 pay line slot offering players an RTP of 96.95%. It has little background scenery going on, except for the various shades of orange depicting a setting sun and some bird silhouettes in the corner. As for the reels themselves they are very basic in design, with bright colourful symbols within them taking up much of the space on screen. Those symbols include an Aztec coin, a diamond, 7, bell and gold bar as your higher paying symbols. With lower paying being the orange, watermelon, limes, strawberries and cherries. There is no music backing this slot either, but it is not totally devoid of sound. There is a rumbling sound as the reels spin and a slight tinkle as the symbols set into position. As a win is formed there is a slight uplift in the tinkling sound complete with popping noises.
Bet Amounts – Betting on Sun Quest begins at 25p per line in play and can be increased up to £2.00 per line in play. This means bets can vary from 25p per spin up to £18.00 per spin, depending on how many lines you have active. You can use the plus and minus symbols on either side of the bet amount and lines active, to change the bet level to what you prefer. Once happy with the lines you are playing and the bet per line, then you can hit spin to resume your game.
Wild Symbol – Your wild symbol in Sun Quest is a circle showing a scenic sunset and the word wild across the middle in blue. It will only land on reels 2, 3 and 4, but it will substitute for all other symbols in the game except for the scatter.
Scatter Symbol – The scatter symbol in Sun Quest is a mixture of a green triangle with a multicoloured word ‘scatter’ and coloured circles dotted about. You certainly can’t miss it when it lands on the reels that’s for sure. The scatter symbol doesn’t trigger any bonus feature unfortunately, but it does offer scatter wins which we will explain below.
Scatter Wins Feature – This is the only feature that Sun Quest has sadly, and although not quite the fun of a bonus spin round, it is still enjoyable. The scatter symbols can land anywhere on the reels and do not have to be on an active pay line in order to pay out. Landing x3 or more scatters anywhere in view will trigger the scatter wins pay out as shown here.
- 3x scatter symbols anywhere in view will award x5 your bet amount as an extra win,
- 4x scatter symbols anywhere in view will award x20 your bet amount as an extra win,
- 5x scatter symbols anywhere in view will award x50 your bet amount as an extra win.
The joy of the scatter wins is that whether you are playing one line or all nine lines, you can still benefit from this feature. This is because it pays out whether the symbol falls on an active pay line or not, which is going to be huge relief to players that like to either bet low or bet with smaller lines active.
Ok, so there isn’t a bonus spins feature in Sun Quest, which we know can be a huge turn off for some people. But we actually enjoyed purely focusing on the gameplay, which is something we felt Microgaming encouraged with this slot. The game itself is bright, cheerful and not too complex, meaning players of all experiences will find something they like about it. The scatter wins are a welcome addition to what would have been an otherwise boring game. Main game wins come fairly regularly, but more so with the max pay lines active. Playing one line only diminishes the wins slightly but thankfully doesn’t have an effect on the scatter wins landing. Overall it is entirely your choice as to whether you play one or all lines. But with the low cost per spin at the max bet with all lines active, we couldn’t resist having a go on all lines.
