We love a bit of steam punk, whether its in a movie, a game or Friday nights down the pub. Not sure why its so popular but it is, and it makes for very interesting slot games too. So, when we saw that NetEnt had lent their design skills to the genre, we had to give it a go. What we found was Steam Tower and boy was it worth the wait!
Steam Tower is a 5-reel, 15 pay line slot offering a mechanically sound RTP of 97%, yes you read that right! There is an awesome backing track playing as the reels spin, which almost makes you feel like you are at the movies. Standing to the left of the reels is the main character armed and ready with his crossbow and top hat! Set against the base of a tower, the reels look mechanical in nature and this theme runs through the symbols too. Higher value symbols include a dragon’s eye, the male character, a female character and the top of a tall tower! Lower value symbols include the card symbols A, K, Q and J all floating atop a set of cogs.
Bet Amounts – Betting on Steam Tower begins at 15p per spin and can be increased to a mammoth £150 per spin! Adjust the bet amounts by changing the coin value to the right of the spin button, Steam Tower or the coin level to the left.
Wild Symbol – There are two wild symbols in Steam Tower, the first is a small symbol that has a crossbow on it. This one will substitute for all other symbols in the game, as there is no scatter this can prove very profitable as all symbols can be matched.
Stacked Wild Symbol – Your second wild symbol is the main character symbol that is expanded to cross all three spaces on a reel. This is known as an expanded wild and though usually it would just substitute and complete wins, in Steam Tower it has a different function. Land yourself this stacked wild on the reels to activate the bonus spins feature.
Bonus Spins Feature – Enter the tower by landing the special stacked wild symbol anywhere on the reels. You will be allocated 10 bonus spins initially to play through and move from the base of the tower to the next floor. Land one or more smaller wild symbols during bonus spins to add x2 extra spins to your total and this will also move you up a floor. Each floor has a multiplier attached to it which will be applied to any wins made during your time on that level.
- Floors 1 to 3 offers a x2 multiplier on any wins,
- Floors 4 to 6 offers a x3 multiplier on any wins,
- Floors 7 to 9 offers a x4 multiplier on any wins,
- Floors 10 to 12 offers a x5 multiplier on any wins,
- Floors 13 to 15 offers a x6 multiplier on any wins,
- Floor 16 offers a x7 multiplier on any wins and a bonus coin win of x1000 coins, which is also multiplied by the current bet level!
You will see the floor meter, the multiplier meter and also the floor indicator change each time you move up a level. These all give you details on the floor you have reached and the multiplier that is currently being applied to your wins.
Steam Tower is an extremely fun game to play both for the wins received and for the design. We love the addition of the dragon swooping past, as the main character ascends the tower in the bonus spins. We never made it to the top of the tower, but we got pretty close on many occasions. The joy of the bonus game is that just one extra wild landing, increases your floor level and adds 2 extra spins to the total making the round last much longer. Wins come fast in both the main and the bonus games, and they range from the low to high pay outs as well. Meaning that not only is the game good fun, it has earned a great reputation off the back of that 97% RTP and after playing it we can see why.
